Youth Learn to Skate
Full Stride's Youth Learn to Skate program is for those who have never skated, or who have very little experience on ice skates. The program is split into two groups, the Snowplow Sam class and the Basic 1 - 6 class. The Snowplow Sam class is for kids between the ages of 3 - 5 years old who are brand new to skating. This class offers 30 minutes of instruction and participants will work on the very basics of ice skating. They can plan on learning how to stand up and walk on their skates off of the ice, how to step onto the ice, how to move on the ice with out a crate, forward gliding, turning on their edges, and more.
The Basic 1 - 6 class is for beginners ages 6 and up. The Basic 1 - 6 class offers 30 minutes of instruction and 30 minutes of free skate time. Participants in this class will work on the basics of skating including forward skating, stopping, backward skating, edge control and more.
Full Stride requires that all participants wear a helmet. It can be a bike helmet, ski helmet, or hockey helmet. Additional padding, such as knee pads and elbow pads, is not required, but highly recommended. Cairns Arena rents out skates for a small fee. Play - It - Again Sports in South Burlington sells used equipment. Kevin Smith's and Sports Central are other local sporting goods stores that carry skating equipment. We recommend warm clothing, hats and mittens as well.
